Hyperbaric oxygen and red light, in Cheshire.

A hyperbaric chamber and a red light bed, a few minutes from J18 of the M6. Below is what a session actually involves, who it suits, and an honest account of what the evidence does and does not support. That last part is why this page reads differently from most.

What it is

You sit in a sealed chamber and breathe oxygen at raised pressure.

That is the whole mechanism. Raising the pressure lets your blood carry more oxygen than it does at ordinary atmospheric pressure, and for the length of the session your tissues are working with more of it than usual.

Hyperbaric oxygen has established hospital uses delivered under specialist supervision. That is a different setting, a different pressure, and a different purpose from ours, and we are careful not to blur the two. What we offer is a wellness and recovery service. If you are looking for treatment of a diagnosed medical problem, the person to speak to is your GP, not us.

The session

An hour, a book, and nobody able to reach you.

You get comfortable and the chamber seals

You stay in your own clothes. You can see out, you can talk to whoever is outside, and it can be opened at any point if you want it opened.

The pressure comes up slowly

Your ears will need clearing, exactly as they do on a plane coming in to land. This is the part people ask about most and it is over in a few minutes. If you cannot clear your ears comfortably, we stop.

Then it is just time

Around an hour. Most people read, listen to something, or sleep. There is no screen and nothing you can usefully do about your inbox, which for a lot of our patients turns out to be the point of it.

Pressure back down, and you leave

No recovery time and nothing to arrange afterwards. People commonly describe feeling clear-headed, and some feel tired that evening. Both are normal.

Where you land afterwards

The hour after matters as much as the hour in.

Nobody is moved straight from a chamber back into the car park. There is somewhere quiet to sit, something warm to drink, and no encouragement at all to hurry.

The honest part

The wellness evidence is thinner than the marketing suggests.

This is where most pages about hyperbaric oxygen start listing things it fixes. We are not going to, and it is worth saying why.

For general wellbeing, recovery and ageing, the published research on hyperbaric oxygen is early. Some of it is promising. A lot of it is small, short, and run without a proper control group, which is exactly the kind of study that produces an exciting headline and does not survive being repeated. Our own research team grades this material the same way it grades everything else we might put in front of you, and hyperbaric oxygen does not currently sit in the top pile.

So here is what we will say. Evidence suggests it may support recovery, and people who use it regularly report feeling better for it. Those are honest claims and they are the only ones we will make. If a clinic tells you more than that with confidence, ask to see what they are basing it on.

Why we have one anyway

Two reasons, and neither is a medical claim. An hour of genuinely protected time is rare and does people good on its own. And it gets patients through the door of a clinic that will then assess them properly across all eight domains of the Profinity Spiral, where the things that will actually change how you feel this year are waiting. Most of those cost nothing.

The red light bed

Specific wavelengths of light, and a genuinely relaxing half hour.

You lie on a bed that bathes your skin in red and near-infrared light. There is no heat to speak of, no discomfort, and nothing to recover from.

The evidence base here is better developed than the hyperbaric one, though still not settled. Evidence suggests it may support skin quality and post-exercise recovery. As with everything else on this page, we would rather you had modest expectations that turn out to be met.

It also stacks well with the skin work. If your assessment shows the thing holding your skin back is texture and tone rather than volume, light is one of the low-cost, low-risk things we are likely to reach for early.

Who it is not for

There are people we will turn away, and we would rather say so here.

Hyperbaric oxygen is not suitable for everyone. Certain lung conditions, recent ear or sinus surgery, some medications and pregnancy all mean either a conversation with a doctor first or a straight no from us. You will be screened before your first session, and if the answer is no, it will be no, however much you were looking forward to it.

Everyone using the chamber or the bed must be 18 or over. Nobody is treated here without an assessment first, which is the same rule that governs every other part of this clinic.

The chamber takes two

Book it with someone and it becomes an evening out.

Ours seats two. An hour together, sealed in, with no phones, no children and nothing that needs putting away afterwards.

We would gently argue that hour does as much for a couple as the oxygen does. It is, as far as we know, the only thing on our price list that improves a marriage, and we make no evidence claim about that whatsoever.

Getting here

Holmes Chapel, a few minutes from J18 of the M6.

Cotton Court, Middlewich Road, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire CW4 7ET. The building sits roughly a hundred yards from the junction, with parking on site.

That location is the reason a service like this works here. Very few clinics in Cheshire have a chamber at all, so people travel for it. From Knutsford, Middlewich, Sandbach, Congleton, Northwich, Macclesfield and Crewe you are looking at somewhere around twenty minutes, and the motorway does most of the work. Wilmslow and Alderley Edge are a comfortable run down the M6.

Sessions and memberships will be listed on the pricing page as they are confirmed. If you are not sure whether any of this is right for you, that is what the ProGlow is for. One morning, a proper assessment, and a plan you keep whether you book anything else or not.

We are not open yet.

The chamber and the bed go in before we open the doors. Join the list and you will hear the date before anyone else, and there is something waiting for the people who joined early.
